The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), abbreviated as SDGs, are 17 global development goals formulated by the United Nations. Continue to guide global development efforts for 2015-2030 after the expiration of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for 2000-2015.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 5th anniversary of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, State Councilor Wang Yi announced during the high-level video conference on poverty reduction and South-South cooperation on September 26 that the Chinese Academy of Sciences has written "Big Earth Data Supporting Sustainable Development". The Sustainable Development Goals Report (2020) provides a reference for countries to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The report is the second time it has been released during the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly after 2019.

The report shows China's exploration and practice of using scientific and technological innovation to promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, fully demonstrates the application value and broad prospects of big earth data technology for monitoring and evaluating sustainable development goals, and opens up a framework for the United Nations Technology Promotion Mechanism New ways and methods to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda by using advanced technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence. The release of the series of reports highlights China's efforts and contributions to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the field of science and technology in the past five years, provides Chinese experience and Chinese solutions for scientific and technological innovation to promote sustainable development, and plays an active role in supporting the global implementation of the 2030 Agenda by science and technology effect.
